Fasika, or Easter, is a major festival for Ethiopian Orthodox Christians. It comes at the end of a 55 day fast, during which people abstain from all meat and animal products.

Easter Week properly starts with Hosana, or Palm Sunday, when Christ is said to have entered Jerusalem, but for our visit we will focus on the main ceremonies which take place starting from Maundy Thursday, continuing on Good Friday and ending on the mass which starts on the Saturday evening, and continues until Easter Sunday morning.

For visitors interested in experiencing the celebration of Easter in Lalibela, we can easily integrate this into an itinerary covering the historic sites in the north, by air or by road.
